Default Heel Shifter

So I am about 1 month, and 1500 miles into my Road King, and I still can't get used to the heel shifter. I am ready to take it off the bike. How long did it take for some of you to get used to it? Is there a way I can adjust it, make it lower? Thanks for the input. Otherwise, no complaints with the new ride.

Definitely has to be lowered. I lowered mine in the back and the front and now I love it. I wish the heel shifter was longer so I could slide my foot back more but I really love it now that I've lowered it.

loosen the set screw pull it of the spline and adjust it up and down accordingly. Use loctite and tighten to specs w/a torque wrench.

I love mine and would be lost w/o it, but it's not my first bike w/a heel shift. Having floorboards it is my first and only choice.

And no I'm not to lazy to use my toe as my dyna gets ridden much more and that has fowards so no heel shift.

They do make an extended version of both levers.

Remove the allen head bolt at the shaft...

Then pull the shift arm off and turn it a few splines in the direction you want it to go. Push back onto shaft, so that the bolt rides in the recess in the shaft. Apply blue locktite and tighten the bolt securely.

Some people don't like how the toe shifter leaves a mark on top of their boot when up shifting. So, adjusting the toe shifter accordingly, and using the heal shifter, solves that...

My 09 UC (1st HD, not 1st road bike) came with the heel shifter. Took my about 1 hour of riding to get use to using it. Personally I like it, as stated above keeps yer foot off the primary cover, and provides an 'extra' shift lever if one is ever needed. After 1 year of riding with it I will never go back to 'toe upshifting' again!

I lowered mine on the 2003 RK I had, got used to it after that in a few rides. Got the new 2012 RGU, again too high, felt like I had to raise my foot completely off the board to hit it so I opted for extended shifters first(size 14's), second Heim Joint shift linkage for a more solid shift and closer tolerance height adjustments and as I installed both set the rear one lower and the front slightly up. Set up for me as best I could and quite happy, I would hate going back to a toe only shift.
