You prove a point @Tenfive0 with this photo. Firstly, would LOVE to have a shovel in the shed, and hopefully one day I will!
But, I also put some miles on each year and my 2006 RKC with EFI has seen 20,000 miles this year already. While it CAN be done, I'm not sure i'd want to subject a shovel (or myself) to what it would take to put that many miles on an AMF-era bike. I've shopped for an early-70s FL and finally decided that at least for my first one, a newer bike was the wiser choice. I really do like my '06 and one day, would love to have a vintage bike. But it wouldn't be the every day, any weather ride. Until then, I'll enjoy the ride, and yes, I often turn around and stare at it when walking away, or when walking up to it. It represents me. I like that.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not taking anything away from the early bikes, but sometimes, a newer ride just fits the bill. Your photo shows you agree.

Advan black CVO Style bags arrived yesterday. Color is close but slightly darker but not enough for me to send back. This biks is 9 yrs old too so there may be some slight fading as well. In direct sun, they match pretty well. Also going to have local painter add pin striping and vivid black to bottoms of the bags as well.
Check out what I did on my 2014 UC: Badges are 62-64 Panhead Air Cleaner cover off late 70's early 80's Behind the AC cover is complete Stage 1 SE Air cleaner. I made a bracket, fits great
If any FLHRCI owners out there have gone beyond the factory attempt at a classic look, please post your pics and what you did. I would like to do more to my 05 FLHRCI to give it a more nostalgic look, but I need some ideas.
I would suggest changing out the cowbell horn cover.
My 09 Road King Classic. The bike came with all four options: two tone paint (Antique Ivory & Turquoise), anti lock brakes, security system & spoked profile wheels. In 2009 the profile wheels used tubes. Starting in 2012 Profile wheels are tubeless. Road King Classics use 16'' front & rear wheels. I searched and found a set of 16'' 2012 tubeless profile "NOS take offs". I also had them relaced with polished stainless steel spokes.
i went with leather fringes to give mine a more nostalgic look. I added fringed 2-tone blue/silver levers that compliment the 2-tone paint scheme, i added an aftermarket windshield that has fringes along the lower sides of the plexiglass, i installed HD fringed floorboard inserts, the engine guard and saddlebag guards have aftermarket leather wraps with a fringe, a rear fender mudflap with fringes from HD, added fringes to the saddlebag lids, screamin' eagle 4" slip-ons with shark fin end caps, teardrop mirrors, and old style grips.
