Next on the list I'd like to do a stage 1 set up with a round air cleaner cover and fish tails. How does she look?
Beautiful bike!!! Needs some fringe, though.

Yeah, I have actually been thinking about adding some fringe. I don't know if I am ready to take that leap though. It's a whole new level.

Default Questions

I have some questions for my fellow Road Kingers.

1. Have any of you lowered your RKC's? If so did you do both front and rear or just rear? Does the bike still ride well with a passenger?

2. Are there any rims out there that you think would look good on a RKC? I know spokes are old school, but I bet the RKC would look good with the right rims.

Thanks.

1 1/2" both front and rear. I think most would say that it's a good idea to maintain the ride height, but then again, everyone's got an opinion. When I had my Heritage Springer I lowered front and rear, starting with Progressive lowering for the rear and later going to an air ride (sometimes I slammed that thing down to the earth...not much for riding but a heck of a good look) but then after my air ride blew up I just put stockers back on the rear. In essence, I was lowered almost 2" in the front with the rear at stock height and didn't have any problems. I had the Road King lowered before I ever took delivery so I can't attest to any "difference". I've done plenty of 2-up riding (although I do my best to impose a gross tonnage law where my passengers are concerned) and have had no difficulties.

If I were to do anything different than the stock laced wheels, I'd probably go with a radial lace, something like a Ride Wright Fat Daddy 50-spoke. I had them on my Heritage Springer and LOVED them!!!

I went with the 12.5" apes from wild1 and I love them. I'm only 5'8" tall, but the 12.5" apes I have still place my hands below my shoulders and are VERY comfortable...I've done 28,000 miles with them in the past year.

I've often though about lowering mine just so I'd have better traction maneuvering around gravel parking lots etc...I have short legs. But I've talked with several who put the streetglide shocks on their RK and then switched back saying it was too stiff and their passengers didn't like the ride. I just got back from riding the Tail of the Dragon ( Deal's Gap NC) and after dragging my floorboards in those corners I have no interest in lowering it any more lol. The 09's have such a great lean angle stock, I don't want to mess with that.

Could you post some pics of your 12.5" apes?
Thanks

Harley...the fringe came from Chilhowee (www.chilhowee.com) - great company. As for axle covers, I Googled the name and up popped quite a number of them. I don't know whether you can open this, but these are the speedball axle covers that I have on my bike. I'm not sure whether Cycle Smiths are discontinuing them because I couldn't find them in their catalog any longer. They did come up in other inventories. If you like them, you ought to buy a set as the price is lower than what I paid.
