I am having an issue with my 2001 road king. It seems like a front wheel hop. The wierd thing is it seems worst when I pull the clutch in and coast at cruising speed. I thought it was a front tire problem so I had it replaced yesterday. After leaving the shop it seemed like it was a little worst. Bearings were good and runout seemed fine. Any other thoughts.
Make sure that the tire is installed so that it is rotating in the proper direction, and that it is balanced either with weights, dyna beads, Ride-On, or something. Check your fall away at the steering head bearings, and while you are there grease them.
I would put it in the air and start checking for something loose. When is the last time the forks was messed with? Maybe low on oil or something, just a thought.
Hows your fork oil level? too much=harsh stiff, too little=soft and tire may dribble like a basketball on certain roads and speeds. You said it was this way before you changed the tire...
If the air pressure in the new tire was a little higher than the old tire, that would account for the difference. No way to know about the fork oil without changing it out. You're probably due for it anyway...
Thanks for all of the info. I am definatly due for a change out of fork oil. The tire pressure on the new tire is a little higher than i was running. The new tire was balanced using weights. The issue was here before i changed my tire. It happened rather abruptly. Last saturday about 120 miles into the ride it started to do it while cruising on an interstate. When i pulled in the clutch to slow down the wheel hop got worse.
