Say I buy the Duals, SERT, High Flow Air Cleaner. Can I tune the bike myself. What software is needed? i have a laptop and do some automation programming so I can move around in software applications pretty good. So what all is needed to get my bike on the road (07 Street Glide) without srewing it up beyond repair, or beyond MY repair! Ya'll guide me and I'll jump into this thing. Right now I am getting 31 MPG and running as hot as a fire cracker, something has to change.

Yes, you can tune it yourself. It comes with a good User's Manual that explains how to use it and 30+ canned maps for typical upgrades.
You will need a set of HD cables that used to be included with the SERT kit, but were omitted in the 32107-01F kits; basically the kits sold in '07. If you find an older kit, one ending in -01E or earlier alphabet letters, it will have the cables.
M&M Cycles is offering the SERT for $355.00; Zanotti's, HD Chicago, and Benji's are reliable 20% off dealers; you will save almost $100. If you have a friend who has the software disc from the current SERT kit, buy an older kit (with the cables) and load the software from your buddy's disc onto your laptop--that's what I did and it works fine.
If you are referring to the operating system on your laptop, anything Windows 2000 or newer will work. If you are referring to the software in the SERT, the kit comes with a CD with all the software on it. The SERT is essentially software you load on your laptop that is linked to your bike's ECMvia a one-user only data link (known as the "Key"). It is that Key that must be new, no prior connection to a bike, for the SERT to download programming information to your ECM.
Problem is you can get it close, but only someone with a dyno and AFR sniffers can get it perfect. So, really comes down to: do you want it close or perfect?
31 MPG - and running lean (hot) - something is not right. Cooling it down with more fuel will only cause the mileage to get worse.
I just purchased the SERT kit from M&M, E-Bay for 367.00. I purchased the harley's latest offering, Kit # 32107-01G. Does anyone know what the revision may have been? Thx in advance, Putt
Only a skilled, experiencedtuner taking probably 5 hours can give an EFI bike a really good tune. And a "perfect" tune (whatever that is since the objectives of the tune will vary from max hp to rideability and everything inbetween)would probably require 8-10 hours, and even then it's a bike tuned on the dyno, not on theroad. The three hour labor charge for a SERT install and tune at the local HD store is far from being a good tune.JMHO.
i got a ThunderMax w AutoTune to go in HarleyRulz bike....been readin it, lookin at it...that thing is cool and easy to understand...i want one...i have a SERT, it runs good....but i dont understand all the many parameters in it...i have no prob loadin any of the canned maps and they were close, and the bike did run fine...but findin a good SERT tuner is much more difficult than you'd think....if i was buyin again, it'd definitely be the ThunderMax system an i may get one just cause

I just finished my build with the ThunderMax with auto tune. I didn't have a laptop to use, so Zippers preloaded a base map for my build. Did the initalization and thats all, at first it was running a little rough, holding the throttle in neutral at about fifteen hundred the tack was bouncing just a little, maybe one hundred fifty RPM. Now with a few miles it has done its auto tuning and it runs great. Crazy thing is when you are cruising along and let off the throttle completely it's just like the ignition was turned off, not rumble, poping or what ever from the pipes! I'm happy as a clam!
Sorry, wasen't trying to hyjack the thread, just happy with the TM
Do they plug into the existing wiring on the bike or do you have to splice into them like the terminal velocity? I picked up one of those and still haven't installed because I didn't want to hack my wires up. I guess I jumped the gun a little bit
