Default Handlebar bolts.........

I have a set of mini apes on my '06 EGC, that I did not install myself, and they are a touch loose, so I am wondering if I can access the bolts by simply removing the outer faring, and the radio ?????

You will certainly be able to get to the front two bolts, but you may need to remove the inner faring cap (the one with the switches) to get to the rear bolts.
Here is a couple of photos showing the front bolts with radio removed on my 2010:

if you have a 1/4" allen wrench, cut off a 1/2" long piece.

you can put the piece into the allen head, and turn it with a 1/4" wrench.

you only really need tighten the rear 2 bolts

you will need to remove the ign switch and lower fairing cap ( with the switches)....this is far quicker than pulling the outer fairing and the radio

watch youtube videos on removing the switch.
most of us screw up alignment the first time

be aware that the bar clamps are on rubber bushings, these bushings may be worn, and the cause of the slop

If they are loose it would be worthwhile to make sure of a couple of things.
1) That you tighten them correctly while you are in there. Also might want to make sure the radio is not hitting the front bolts which has been known to cause failures in the radio.
2) That you have a 1 piece top clamp and the shorter front bolts.

Remove the front outer fairing and the panel with the switches around the ignition and either remove the radio or remove the two bolts holding the passing lamp bracket/inner fairing and rotate the inner towards the front of the bike.
Check the bottom of the radio for marks from the front handlebar clamp bolts and/or see if the front bolts are the same as the back ones. In either case, replace the front bolts with P/N 12600003 which is a bolt with a shorter head so they don't hit the radio. Also if your handlebar clamp is two pieces, replace it with the one piece P/N 55918-08
Torque the front bolts to spec to completely close the gap then torque the rear bolts to spec.
