Hi all.
I am going to make the move from my Fat Boy Lo to a touring.
I do not know much about touring models. The overall reason I am changing is for comfort. (age,ya know? )
So, I am looking for recommendations.
I want ABS, and cruise. I am not crazy about a normal windshield and am leaning toward a fairing. I will not be riding 24/7 on thousand mile trips. I have not done any lengthy travels...yet.
I do not need all the bells and whisles and want some room for personal mods if necessary.
I just bought a 13 SG and it's killer.
Left the Fat Boy mainly because im 50 and wanted comfort. The SG is about as far as I wanted to go with a bagger. The windshield does nothing more than protect your gauges and the occasional bug in the face and It doesn't do anything for the wind. I like it because you still feel like your riding a softail and you get the comfort of a touring bike with just two hard cases.
To be fair, I never test drove a UG or RK so I can't tell you much more than my experience with the SG.
It's all personal preference, I just didn't want all the extra bags.
I bought a road king because most of my riding is around towns, and I can remove the windshield in a seconds. Then put it back on when i'm driving longer distances.
If I was looking for a bike with a fairing, it would be the street glide without a doubt.

I went from a Fatboy to a King this year. IMO the RK is the best of both worlds - touring and cruising. I had no use for a radio or fairing (which does make the front end heavier) and like the option of removing the windshield when it's 95+ here in FL. I guess if your into really long cruises the fairing would be good for some. Best is to test ride all the models and see what fits for you.
