Exclamation Indy has damaged my trust.

I have had my trust in man to be hurt in an incident a couple days ago. I took a tire, tube and rear brakes to an Indy that i had great things to say about his first work and prices he charged. I have only know him for two or three months but have referred to him four other jobs . I get a voice mail call telling me that the tube i brought over was defective and my bike wouldn't be ready today. I went by his shop to see the defective tube but he wasn't there but had gone off with his Pastor or someone from his Church (i forget which). I ask to see the tube and he said he had it with him (strange?). I called Motorcycle Super Store and told them the tube was defective, no problem we will send you a return label and return authorization #. Next day i go to get the bike and pick up the tube. I didn't look at while there but looked when i got home and it was clearly PINCHED, not defective. I called and told him that the tube appeared to be pinched to me and that i called MSS and they would credit my account. He said if they wouldn't that he would refund me my $20.00. One friend that was a wrench for 12 years saw it and sid it was pinched and if i paid him for a new one, he probably put back in the tube that was in there. I am having a tough time believing that someone that i thought was a straight up guy would do that. If MSS does credit my account I WILL NEVER USE HIM AGAIN, he has lost my confidence. If they don't credit my account i will ask for my $$$$. Troubled here in Metro Atlanta. What would you do/have done?

I'd get to know a person longer than 2-3 months before becoming BFFs. I didn't see the tube so I can't say. Taking the tube with him out of shop is definitely weird and in my opinion not likely. It sure what he put back in. How old was the one you replaced? I'm assuming you have spoked rims and hence the tube, may be best to change it out to pacify the mind. Also opportunity to see if spokes rusting inside rim.

I buy my tires through my Indy, I understand that it's important to him that he make money just as much as it is for me to save money. And his prices are very good, I get to sit in his shop while work is done, he offers free drinks from his fridge, I watch get every task and BSing about things. It's a good relationship to have.

If you showed up at most shops with all things purchased from someone else asking them to install them you are likely to recieve less than world class service. JMHO

I had an Indy mount two tires and tubes, they pinched one of the tubes, replaced it for free and apologized for taking the extra time....

Since you brought in your parts, you were paying for labor. Accidents happen. So you need to bring him another tube. If you had brought the bike in and ask for a new tire and tube and they had quoted you $200 and they pinched the tube, they would have ate the lost since they quoted $200. However, they should have been upfront about it and not gone about it in the way they did it. No different then taking an old pair of eye glass frames to get new lens in them. Here they are better versed and say it up front, if we break them, we are not responsible. I sure do not blame you for how you fill in the way they handled it.

He told you the tube was 'defective', and his guy at the shop said he took it with him when he was out with his pastor or some one from his church?

Why is it that those who preach godliness so easily are the first ones to lie to you? Hmm, maybe I didn't need to ask that question!

Yeh, it's time to find yourself another indy to place your trust in...

Be glad it wasn't any real money. Find another indy or learn to do it yourself.
