I purchase a smooth push-button door release for my 2012 FLHTK. After install I started getting a rattling noise. Turns out the new fuel door button rattles, especially at idle. Has anyone else had this problem ? if so, is there a fix, or am I just SOL
Thanks in advance Jonnierock
I just installed the same kit (I think). Mine doesnt rattle. I know that doesnt help you but maybe the new flat spring isnt installed correctly? Took me a couple of times trying to line it up right.
Nope, the rattle is in the button itself and there really isn't a good fix as far as I can find. It does make a good oral warning that I'm at 2800 RPMs.
I have had 2 of these fail on me- the first I figured a fluke, and it broke in such a way I was able to open the door and replace with new.
The "new" one failed 800 miles from home...at a gas station...which was closing for the night in 40 minutes...
I was able to use a brass feeler gauge to release it..after quite some time.
I've been told that on some models the dash CAN be removed with the gas lid locked shut, if this is you, make sure you have the correct tool for this in your bags.
neither of mine will
post-mortem showed that a brass pin had vibrated out of the release mechanism
Subscribed. I also have a rattle from my smooth push button door release. Like it way better than the H-D locking push button but would love to find the cure.

ditto on my first one on this bike. brass pin fell out inside the door, so wound up using a feeler gauge as well that was included in my HD tool kit. Always wondered why that was in there.. Now I know...
2nd one hasn't given me any issues but then i put a dab of super glue on each end of the brass pin.
