I have a 2010 ultra never rode two up until today. passenger stated bike was bottoming out. i could feel it. i don't know if the seat was botttoming out on the frame, or the bike was bottoming out on the rear tire
can anyone please tell me what to look for. what psi are the shocks? do the seats have an air adjustable shock? do i need a special tool or just a bicycle pump to add air to whatever? i dont even have a owners manual.
thanks for the help. two people now with hurting backs
Get the owners manual and yes there is a special air pump used to add air to shocks.
Unfortunately I give you the pressure info you need since I have the older frame.
You do need to use the Harley pump since it is super sensitive and no loss. Also has a guage built in.
Pressure definitely needs to be increased with a passenger. On your bike the range goes up to 50#. I don't know your weight or combined wt but I ran about 30# for me and about 42# combined. Get a pump and experiment. If you were a bit closer I'd sell you mine at a discount. I removed my air shocks. If you're headed toward Rockland PM me and you can buy my pump and read my manual.
Get rid of those awful stock air shocks and get a real rear suspension. Oh well. That's been beaten to death a thousand times. Seriously though. Look into some quality shocks if you want reasonable comfort. Let the flames begin:-)
Don't buy the pump put the $50.00 towards some better shocks, or you could buy some take off shocks for an ultra, which will help, but not as good as new shocks.
I bet you can sell your shocks on ebay for a few bucks too.
The stock SG shocks are just too short, and not of good quality.

Ooops. Had a friend that packed a 3' travel bag strapped to his sissy bar and also rode two up with his wife on a Wide Glide. He used think it was fun when he twisted the throttle and popped a wheelie with his heifer on the back. One day, riding through I-DA-HO, he experienced rear wheel wobble. We found that his rear rim developed a split. His tire tube was trying to pop through the rim. There is a limit on the amount of weight placed on the rear excel, in spite of the type of shocks your are using. Make sure you are not overloaded!
