I owned my 01 Ultra since 2003........always wanted one and was real proud when I finally brought it home now after putting 31600 miles on it I let it go..........Over the past 4 years just to many problems. The last being worn out chain tensioners and cams....I put a fair amount of money into it to make it my own ....lights, chrome and exhaust....Just don't have the money to keep putting into it. I all ready miss it....somethings can't be explained..I appreciate all the advice and help that everyone here has offered. I will look in from time to time to see what is new.......who knows one day I may buya newUltra.......had lots of fun rides...till then ride safe....two wheels better than four any day........
I feel your pain! Thanks for the pix....that's a great looking bike. Who would guess it was a money pit! Chain tensioners gone at 31K? I'm sorta uv a dumb**** about the tensioners.....should they be replaced at 25K or so?
You should definitely be checking them at 25k or so. Im some cases they last alot longer than that but in enough cases they have been found to be needing replacement at even 15k or so. It pays to keep an eye on them!
I plan to pull my side cover off in the next week or so, i'm at 20k since they were changed on my EG...
01Ultra, did you ever considering replacing the cam chain and tensioners with gears? I know you said you didn't want to put more money into it, but was that the only reason you sold it?
Not trying to give you a hard time, but very nice looking scoot. Very sorry you had to part with it.
When the cam tensioners and cams were found to be worn out I did decide to put in S&S 510G cam andPCIII even had it put on a dyno.......had custom map done.......bike did not run right when first cranked up....would not idle right. Just got to were I did not trust the bike anymore.got tried of taking it back and forth to the shop.........I am going to get another bike but have not decided what. I really enjoyed the Ultra.....but just to many problems with that one....may look at going over to the plastic side for awhile.........
01Ultra, I understand. Sort of like having a nagging toothache that doesn't get better.
The plastic side is okay too. I've got a Suzuki Boulevard in addtion to my 2000 FLHTCI. Both are good, but both have their problems, too. Main thing is find something you like and RIDE. I sure wish you the best.
I must say, when I popped open the pic attachment I thought it was a Mass State Trooper bike[:-][:-][:-]! Yikes, don't need them up my *** this soon into the season!
