yup mine used a quart in 5000 miles.....air cooled motor 100 degrees......75 to 80 for 1200 miles except stopping to get fuel pretty much non stop oh and a motel in there somewhere total of 2400 miles....2011 S.G. I'm not worried just riding around town and I live 30 to 50 miles from anywhere it uses none....now if it needed oil every time I got on it I would be worried
Apparently some of you guys are cruising around at 75-80 mph for long distances. I am shocked! Shocked, I tell you. 75 is closer to my age than how fast I cruise at. Lots of younger riders I guess.
I could see a little usage but I do have a problem when a new harley needs a quart every 3000 miles. I know what the stealer is going to tell me but reporting it and if it gets worse it is at least recorded. It is sad we are talking like this is all ok and just fine....
I can see reporting it but a quart in 3000 miles documented is still probably going to go under "normal" in the eyes of MOCO. If it has been a quart in 3k right along, it's probably normal for your bike, riding conditions, oil weight, ambient temps, etc. Mine used a bit through the first 1000 miles. Probably went through about 1/2+ quart. Since I switched to rd line 20w-50 at 1k it's used about 1/2 quart in 4k. I ride about 7 miles to work each day and do 100-150 on the weekends so I don't have very extreme conditions. Who knows what it would use if I put the mileage on that some folks here do. It's obvious that the 103 is not a tight tolerance/clearance engine. It's bound to use a bit of oil compared to your Accord that is clearanced for 5w-20. JMO.
Update, the owner of the trike contacted another dealer and was told that is not normal and to bring it in for a leak down test. Will be covered under warranty!!

Bring it in and they will do a leak down test and WHAT will be covered under warranty? The test? Maybe. A fix for the oil consumption? I doubt they would say that without testing first.
I just took a trip out west from Nc. Went to s. Tx, then to Ok, then to N. Ar, then back to Nc. I used 1/2 qt. I initially was concerned, but remembered how I rode, 70-75 mph, hot some days, rode it pretty hard. Now I don't think that's to bad. Not concerned....
Update on my oil usage. About 1700 miles since last change. Rode around 200 miles yesterday and checked it this morning....about 3/4-1 qt low. Pull the derby cover and yep....oil comes pouring out. Looks like I have migration. Kinda what I thought it was gonna be doe to the fact I had no visible leaks or blow buy. Taking it in tomorrow. Glad I have two bikes.
