I bet the stealers won't tell him that when the warranty runs out. Using too much oil.

I have owned three Harleys, none of them used any oil between 5k changes. None of my more than 10 or so Jap bikes ever needed oil between changes.

None of my more than 15 automobiles ever needed oil between changes....wait, my 85 S15 Jimmy used a little, but I never changed it, just put in used motorcycle oil when it needed some. Went more than 225 k miles, about the last 100k on the same filter and no changes.

I say it is normal to not need any oil, but it is also acceptable to use a little, perhaps a quart in 5K mikes, I would accept.

My 103 didn't use any until I got the stage4 kit, used 1.25 qts in 3500 miles, going to keep a closer eye on it now

My Street Glide burns some oil, but not that much. My Dyna with the 96 not a drop.

Had a quart with me on my 4900 mile trip. Used half of it up for top-off's. Not worried.

Make sure the oil isn't being pushed into the primary due to a leaky seal. Just measure how much comes out when you drain the primary.

Conventionasl vs. Synthetics isn't about which is "better"; it's about which lasts longer, while assuring safe operation, in relation to cost. Any product can be over or under utilized.
Make an informed decision; first consider your operating conditions, next determine your maintenance plan, and then pick your lube and filter. Don't do it the other way around ...

What is your thinking on running a mix like that?

I have a 2012 Trike, 103, SE255 cams with 20,000 miles. The cams were put in at 15,000 miles. I do not baby it; but, don't pound the crap out of it all the time either. It might be down 1/4 quart when I get ready to change the oil at 5,000 mile intervals. I use Amsoil 20/50 but don't think that makes a difference, just a matter of personal choice.
