What oil level is he trying to maintain? Alot of bikes will use oil if you fill them to the top of the range on the dipstick. Mine seems to like two holes down.
My 103 didn't use any until I got the stage4 kit, used 1.25 qts in 3500 miles, going to keep a closer eye on it now
I've always burned some oil since the beginning but I had it upgraded to a Stage III kit with less than 500 miles. I'm now sitting at 16.5K miles 10 months later .. maybe its time for them to look at valves seating.
Wow everyone has their own opinion, but remember no two engines are the same, so nothing the same is guarenteed. As someone has said it depends on the rider and how its ridden and maintained and the enviroment its in.
I just checked mined today and had to put oil in it. THat is a quart in just under 4000 miles.... NO leaks, just looked it over. I am thinking a trip to the local dealer....

A quart in 4k miles doesn't sound horribly bad to me but some folks think you should use none. I would bet dealer will tell you it's normal.

Exactly right....If your touring heavily loaded, pulling hills and blowing through deserts, your engine is working pretty hard...you're going to use some oil...now is not the time to panic.

I could see a little usage but I do have a problem when a new harley needs a quart every 3000 miles. I know what the stealer is going to tell me but reporting it and if it gets worse it is at least recorded. It is sad we are talking like this is all ok and just fine....
???
A quart needed after 2000-4000 miles really?
If you see a leak somewhere then there is some thing wrong. Or exhaust smoke is excessive.
If not, how would you fix it?
Tear the motor apart for what....put new valve guides, rings?
Do that, put it all together and it still may use a quart........or more, or create a leak.
Its not worth it. Just ride it.
My Road King uses 1/2 to 1 quart after around 4000 miles. I dont add , I just change it.
yup mine used a quart in 5000 miles.....air cooled motor 100 degrees......75 to 80 for 1200 miles except stopping to get fuel pretty much non stop oh and a motel in there somewhere total of 2400 miles....2011 S.G. I'm not worried just riding around town and I live 30 to 50 miles from anywhere it uses none....now if it needed oil every time I got on it I would be worried
