Should I notice a big difference after uploading a map?
I finally uploaded a map to my Power Commander IIIr; just didn't notice a great improvement. Not really sure what to expect. I guess it depends on the may, right?
Map: 802-320.
The bike is 2001 RK Police, stock, except for Stage I Air Cleaner, V&H Big Shot Duals.
The changes are as suttle as the map, yo will see it in the mileage and the acceleration. Right now my map is setup for mileage and the rear cylinder (#2) plug is still whitish. I will be loading a partial performance map Im putting together that will deliver a bit more fuel to #2 and hopfully wont sacrifice too much economy, yo would be surprised how even minute changes in fuel #s has on mileage. The difference of 5% to 3% more fuel just in the idle column has a couple mile per gallon difference.
Im not familiar with the PC III and if you are able to change fuel tables like the V, but keep a map saved that you know works well and experiment with another one by trial and error, ofcourse having it dyno'd is always favorable or you can play with one yourself.
So, I have been reading how the values are entered into the cells on the fuel tables and the ignition tables. Seems like the only way to get a GOOD map, is to dyno the bike. Otherwise, it's all hit or miss.
On the other hand, if you have been to the dyno, you can make some subtle changes to your map as needed.
If it's the right map, you'll notice a difference. The problem with "canned" maps is that while the bike they set it up on might be just exactly like the one you are riding down to the color, it wasn't done for YOUR bike. They all are a little different, so the tune isn't gonna be 100% of what it could be. I had a tuner that has done all of my bikes tell me one time that the best you can really hope for is about 90%, and even with a custom dyno tune your looking at 95-98% on a GOOD day!
If the seat of your pants tells you it's different, that's what matters!...at least in my opinion.
What do I know anyway, I'm just a picker in a country band...LOL!
