Default Issue with oil pressure gauge adapter fitting

Installed am Arlen Ness oil pressure gauge, however, the adapter that threads into the engine case doesn't tighten like it should. It is a tapered pipe thread, however, is made a little smaller. I checked it with calipers.
Wondering if any of you chaps have come across a problem like this?
Thinking about using the pink teflon tape for gas, not sure if it's rated for petroleum products.

You're positive it's the right part for your bike? Doesn't sound like it to me.

How much smaller on the calipers. Need to reference it from the front. There is a big difference in 1/8 -27NPT pipe and 1/4-18NPT pipe including the threads per inch. It also does not take anything to make the aluminum hole too large. I think you also need proper hardening type sealer and not Teflon tape since vibration will tend to loosen the tape and you will have a seep and or a drip leak. The threads should not bottom.

That is the thickness of a sheet of paper. Think you may have over tightened it. Does the threads match when you lay them together? Does the old fitting snug up now without bottoming? I did a search on Arlen Ness gage and the fitting on it is a MS fitting like on the drain plugs and has an o-ring. That is a straight thread and appears smaller so I am nor sure of size. There is about 7 MS fitting sizes. What is your part number. I think before you screw that in, you need to call them. Arlen Ness Oil Pressure Gauge Kit 15-659

My mistake, the diameter of the oil pressure sending unit thread is 0.53 and the adapter is 0.51.

Here is the adapter:

With the oil press sending unit finger-tight and the adapter finger tight in another fitting I got from the shop. You can see the adapter goes all the way into the fitting, just like it would on the engine case. With a tapered thread it should only go in a few turns.

Well, I used the bushing in the other picture, and tightened the adapter into it, using yellow teflon tape. Then, threaded the brass adapter into the engine case.

No leaks yet!

Looks like a winner. Guess the fancy Ness stuff was subbed out to someone who has no gages
