Hello, new here and new to Harleys.
I turned 66 in July and thought, get a Harley, so I bought a 96 Ultra Classic.
It has one problem, it is not charging, but I will work on that plus change oil and filter and new tires.
Good looking bike that's been blinged out a little bit too. Evolution engines are pretty reliable engines and easily modified or worked on. I am betting you got that bike at a decent price because after the Twin Cam became popular, Evo's are pretty much an afterthought to most Touring riders.
If it isn't the regulator, then your charging issue is probably the stator, which is mounted in the primary behind the compensator (engine) sprocket. Make sure you grab you an H-D service manual before you tear into it. It will save you lots of money and trouble down the road.
Looks like a good deal. Congrats on the new ride. It'll give you lot's of enjoyable miles. That EVO motor is bullet proof. Get the charging issue solved and ride into the sunset. I'm guessing stator, as that was one of the things that went south on those models. I remember having to replace mine as well. It's a pain, but remember it's just nuts and bolts. Get the manual! It's essential. Good luck.
Well done. Call in the DIY Electrical section, where you will find a sticky with help on diagnosing charging problems. Also call in the Evo section, to meet fellow Evo owners.
