Having some weird problems with my bike. I have 2002 RKC and just replaced the battery in it. When I tried to start her up, she would turn over but not fire... Then she would fire but not run... I finally got her to run and started and turned her off several times. The voltages appear to be in the norms when checking with the multimeter...however now she will turn off periodically with no warning... I usually can get her started back quickly by popping the clutch or restarting. Here is the kicker. I find a bolt on the floor under the bike and cannot find where it goes... Thought it could be for a ground but so far I can't find where it goes... Any ideas?

Another shot of the bolt.. And no, I do not have a messy garage... It is very unusual for a bolt to be on the floor in my garage!
The second shot is more helpful than the first. Did you find it under the engine, the transmission, the rear fender, near the front wheel? That info will help if it didn't get kicked while you were working around the bike. Does anything else, bicycle, lawn mower, wagon or other gadget with nuts and bolts roll through the same area?
Is it about a 1/4 inch diameter? My machine has the most bolts that resemble that one in the vicinity of the muffler supports and the rear fender support.
if it takes a 10mm wrench, then it is from the battery--- or the old one.
on some models, the tip over switch bracket can crack and break.
leaving the tip over switch swinging on the wires...it'll usually shut down on a curve or bump. lights stay on, motor off, just like you hit the kill switch.
diagnosis involves shaking the bike while it's running.
( on most models the tip switch in inboard of the leftside cover ignition stuff)
or
check the + battery cable for a rub through contacting the frame ...

I just had moved my bike to get in on a jack. I found it just in front of the rear tire just on the left side of the bike. It is a 1/2" head on the bolt. My wife's car normally is parked there but it is a newer Toyota. So it would be metric... I was just in the garage and had the bags and covers off.. I can't see anywhere it would go...
Ride safe,
Mike

Thanks for the reply.. It is a 1/2" bolt head. I need to find the tip over switch as that sounds plausible... Thanks for the info.

While I can't tell you what it's from I can certainly state that I don't ever recall a bolt with "SBY" on the head. I would venture to say that it is not a fastener that you run across every day. I've been turning wrenches for well over 40 years ( ASE ) and it just doesn't ring a bell. Maybe someone will chime in with regards to the letters on the head of the bolt.
