Default Is a tuner needed?

I have a 2013 Road Glide that is stock except for the Vance and Hines slipons I added. I also had the catalytic converter removed after 8,500 miles. I am thinking of adding a K & N Stage 1 Breather...My question is; Do I need to install a tuner or have it remaped after doing these changes? I am not planning any future changes. I just want to get the HP out of the bike it has the ability to achieve while at the same time have it run cooler. Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated as I am in no way a motorheadL

I know this isn't what anyone says but I just took the cat out of my new 2013 streetglide, put on jackpot 4in mufflers and a S&S Big breather , I have put 800 miles on it. in the last two weeks and it runs great, lot less heat, no popping of exhaust, and it pulls hard. I have allways put a tuner on first, but decided to try and see if really needed, in my case not needed, but I am sure it is different with each bike. also it has been in the 90's when ridding. I do know as it gets colder it will make it run leaner, but I still think the ecm will take care of it.

You don't NEED a tuner but it sure would benefit the way the bike runs. If your budget is crying, try some XEID's...check out nightrider.com to read about them...around 100 bucks.

If you have a good dyno tuner in your area and know you are done with engine mods, you can pay a license fee and use the dyno tuners tuner and have the bike dialed in for less then 500 bucks with no fussing

I would say Yes, either Tuner or Stage 1 Download from Harley Dealer.

Have any of you that are answering yes ever riden a newer harley with pipes and A/C with no tuner? You might be surprised how well it adjust out. It sure isn't going to hurt anything running it that way.

For me, I want my bike to run the very best it can. I run the TTS and had it dyno tuned and very happy with the results

Being as opinions are like a**holes, here is mine. NO! The stock ECM has the ability to make incremental adjustments to the way you ride. Not to offend the naysayers, but my 20+yr HD tech who just recently went to HD corporates Dyno school, says anyone with a piggyback system will end up having troubles. He recommended having the stock ECM adjusted through dyno tuning to get the best and longest lasting results. But he also said with air filter and slip on's, tuning wasn't necessary, it would adjust itself. However with no cats, that might cold make a bit of difference. Some here believe in the XID's but I have no experience with anything that new. Lol
My $0.03 and am sticking with it!

Its always recommended. You don't want to overheat your valves and other components.

Many choices out there from XEID (Enrichment Devices) to various FI tuners to fit most budgets.
