Please read my original post. They told me they are told to lie to there customers on a regular basis. Again i can figure it out the product is good, just needs twequing. They know it and elect to do nothing about it. I ordered mine and it was 4 weeks after they cashed my check. I will get my painted later. the other problems i have fixed or will fix myself. You will get NO help from them.
My Reckless XL Fairing has been excellent, no problems.
No reception issues whatsoever.
The Two Tone Root Beer was matched to perfection, inside and out.
Infinity Stereo and 4 Polk Audio's rock out.
Came with two shields, 5" and 8", 5 was too short, 8 was borderline.
I just bought a LRS Elite Polycarbonate 9" Recurve and installed it last week, excellent.
I prefer to ride with my 'King Windshield, but put the fairing on for cooler rides. Too pretty of a nacelle to cover up!
Sorry to hear about problems some may have experienced, mine was not the case. They said HD Paint was not a problem, and they nailed it. I handled all my transactions with them over the phone. They initially told me it would take about 4 weeks, which was about right. All my windshields are exact Harley fit, no problems there.
They are located in Maryville, Tenn. I told them I go thru there on my way to Gatlinburg, they said call and let them know, and they would let me look over the place. I may take them up on that.
The XL is the Big Daddy of their fairings, glad I went with it. In the winter it is nice. But I also look forward to taking it off and getting back to the 'King again!
It does just what I bought it for.
I love my fairing. I have the same one you do, but i even went for the power amp. It has too much power, thats one of the questions i had for the Reckless people before the blew me off with stupid comments. The unit is great, looks great and sounds better. But the company as a unit is disfunctional at best. The paint thing was not that big of a deal with me, but 4-5 weeks to tell me they could not do it, was. When I gave them the VIN# and paint code and color the day I ordered it. A tech there told me the antena they use is "cheap". Again not a deal breaker, but what about being trueful up front and giving options. SERVICE is BAD if any at all.
How well do you guys think the Reckless black Gel coat would match my '12 Vivid Black RK? Close enough or would I still need it painted?
Thanks
JG
I saw them installing them at OC Bike Week on vivid black bikes, and it looked good. Not a perfect match, but damn close. Probably if they were waxed, it would be closer
It is obvious that Reckless put a lot of engineering and planning into the fit and finish of their product.
A three wire deltran connector makes connection easy and tucks away when not in use. I take off my windshield, replace the rubber windshield grommets with their metal ones, turn out the passing lamps, ease the fairing in the lowers, tilt back into the upper mounts, tighten, adjust the passing lamps, plug the power in, ready to ride. The gap around the nacelle and fork areas are small and even. The mount is solid and substantial. It really is a well designed fairing, one man job to take on/off, maybe 10 minutes once familiar with it. I remember they insisted on numbers on the 'King - they said some people have been known to get their colors mixed up on their paint. No problem.
I have heard folks say "Once you put that fairing on there, you won't take it off". Not me. It extends my riding season in cooler temps, and makes interstate travel a bit better. The 9" LRS Elite Recurve was the icing on the cake and I am set for cooler fall/winter rides.
Versatility is a great option for Road Kings, and when I decided to look into fairings, I looked far and wide for a while. To each their own, I have no regrets.
BTW - Some time later, I called Reckless about a remote for the Infinity Unit (The paperwork mentioned one was available - garage play, what the heck! ). He said He could get me one, but advised against it, said it was over a hundred dollars! He suggested I talk to a Best Buy Geek, and find a universal replacement remote for under $20, which I did.
Not bad folks to me! YMMV...
After reading all the reveiws on this forum. I just pulled the trigger and ordered a reckless xl fairing. I plan to hard mount my zumo 665 gps to it. Has anyone on this forum done this before? If so how did you run the wiring?
[B]Update: I got my reckless xl fairing 4 days ago and installed it today.
I can't believe the difference a fairing makes in riding comfort. I took some pics with the 5" smoked windshield and then I installed the 8" clear windshield for more comfort.
It took me about 2hrs. to install the hardest part was figuring on how to run the wiring. Ended up running the wires under the guage nacell on top of the tank.
