Let me give you a little background on the Harley tuners I have used in the past. SERT (liked the performance, but I had to do several dyno tunes as I changed out parts), XIED-10 (worked good for a stock bike, but I quickly out grew it), Power Commander V (I purchased mine from Fuel Moto and went through 6 maps before I finally found one that did a good job at balancing performance and fuel economy). The SERT was probably he best of those listed above, but I got tired of depending on the dealer to tune my bike and the costs added up.
I purchased a TTS Mastertune 2 from an eBay dealer ($400 which included the cable for my 2013 Ultra Limited) a couple of weeks ago and ran the closest canned map from the manufacturer for about a week. I read through the almost 500 pages of documentation that came with the TTS Mastertune, 80% of which when over my head and was geared more for the professional dyno tuner. I finally read through the programming guide geared specifically for Harley's and it all clicked in.
I did three, one hour "butt in the seat" tuning runs on Saturday, with a laptop capturing performance data in my tour pak. I could see with each run the tuner was getting more dialed into making the engine run better and with a more responsive throttle. On Sunday, I ran through a tank of gas in mixed city and highway driving, I am getter 43 mpg and I feel the bike is running at about 98% of what I could get from a professional dyno.
For anyone considering a performance tuner for your bike, I would definitely recommend looking at the TTS Mstertune 2. It is very easy to self-tune for a novice and you will be very happy with the final results.
When I get mine setup I'll be going with TTS, FullSac header, Big Sucker air filter and a set of good mufflers.. I like all I've read about TTS and FullSac....
That's what I use, went though several caned maps without much luck. Finally went to have it dynoed at the dyno difference in Dallas. Boy, did it wake it up. The caned maps had it running at 84hp and 90 lb tq,(not to bad) and around 30 mpg(bad). After dyno 96 hp and 96 lb tq and 39 to 42 mpg. Very happy with the TTS-2.

There is no replacement for a well trained tuner and tts. I always get great results with vtune but dyno tuning is better.
I agree that to get the most out of any tuner, it is best to have a dyno done to the bike. At this point, I will finish my modifications in November with a set of TW-222 cams and I will have the bike dyno tuned at that time. Using the "self tune" features of the TTS Mastertune can get you very close to a great tune in the range of riding that most of us do on a daily basis, without the need for a dyno.
