I really like the way the new '14 SG handles
I did a 20-minute demo ride on a '14 SG yesterday. The main purpose was to check out the new front-end. I've read lots of positive review on how great the new front-end is, but I had to see it for myself.
Man, that new front-end is really awesome! The bike is really nimble and extremely easy to handle. I loved it!
The linked braking system is also great, because it made braking totally brainless (like braking when driving a car).
I don't have much other feedback, just on the front fork. I didn't play around with the sound system, etc., because I don't care for it. (I have a '13 SG and I've only turned on the radio to make sure it's not broken; I only listen to my the tracks on my iPhone, so the sound system, no matter how superb, is lost on me).
As for the power/acceleration, I didn't notice any significant improvement over the stock '13. I am sure the improvement is there, it's just that I didn't really push the bike that much during the short 20-minute ride on a busy freeway. I figured with the 255 cam, it's already got the right ingredients for a great bike build.
The hydraulic clutch is a funky little thing. I had a hard time finding the friction zone and never got comfortable doing full-lock turns on the bike as a result. I almost stalled the bike a few times mid-turn. I was actually kind of frustrated at myself for not being a "quick learner", because how hard can it be to go from a cable clutch to hydraulic clutch, right? But I am sure if I spent enough time on it it will come to me.
The handlebar on the '14 SG is a little bit higher than my stock '13 bar. Not better or worse, just gave me a different feel when I first hopped on.
All in all, I think the '14 SG is a great handling bike and anyone who is considering getting it (and has the money to do so) should do it. I think the bike is so easy to handle that even a noob can ride it (except for that 22 year old to totaled the Limited during his demo ride).
