I bought the little chrome cap for my last 3 bikes. Came home, drilled on through them, then used my bench grinder and removed the closed end of the cap until it was same width as shifter. Placed it on the inboard side with toe shifter to the outside.

No part if this thread was about being "manly" and I don't know why you're taking it there.
Again, you missed the entire point of the OP's thread.....which offered an alternative to those caps and spacers sold by H-D and many others.
It's a customizing mod that can be done for zero ($0) dollars if you have the simplest of tools (a hack saw and a file).
If you don't want to do this mod, then don't.
Nobody but you is impressed with the fact that you successfully installed a cap on your motorcycle and actually own both a hack saw and a circular saw.

Nice work though!
Me too, my feet tend to point outward...for now this suits my needs.

Personally I prefer the heel-toe shift, but what the OP did was a nice slick little mod, looks clean and didn't cost him anything but his time!

Any one can buy parts and put them on, not everybody can fabricate though, lucky for me that my mechanical and fabricating abilities allow me to pretty much do whatever I want to, even if Harley says it won't fit, HA just watch me make it work!

Nice job OP, looks very nice!

56 replies and no one just takes the rubber and bolt out then put the empty lever back on?? Just re-installing the orginal lever is simple and it keeps your damn boot off the engine from scratching the crap out of it. Cost? Zero
Come'on, hacksawing the shaft off! Are kidding me? Fine if you will be the final owner of that bike. You' all are making a simple procedure a major and costly ordeal!

As if anyone is impressed that you know how to operate a hacksaw.

Actually, it's not that major and not that costly. I bought another shaft on ebay for $25 and did the cut on that one (saving the original in case I wanted to put things back to stock). Swapping them out probably took 10 minutes, and I'm a slow worker.

I'm confused. If you did that on mine (FLSTC) the shift arm that controls the transmission would be on the outside and the splined end of the shaft (along with the toe/heel shifters) would be next to the engine and totally unreachable.
