Come'on, hacksawing the shaft off! Are kidding me? Fine if you will be the final owner of that bike. You' all are making a simple procedure a major and costly ordeal!
See my post a page or two back. Exactly what I did. If you don't hand some of these boys a photo with power point arrows, part number for the rubber off the shifter and torque spec on the bolt; they can't see it.

Personally, the shifter was too far inboard for me so moving it out and using the spare rubber as a spacer was a good deal all around.

I'm always amazed at people who spend thousands of dollars on a motorcycle and then whine that a 20 dollar part is a waste of money. It's true that sometimes the cheapest thing on a Harley is the owner.

Rather than an end fitting to cover the exposed shaft the idea of a shorter shaft covers all the bases IMO. This is likely an example of the process that was followed in pursuit of the wheel and other significants like alcohol and etc. According to the guru's this type of creativity is a significant indication of someone not constantly in pursuit of red meat to feed his family leaving little time for creativity. No, he is corn fed, proud and willing not only to create but share his creation with humanity. Well done, bro! All American IMO!

I bought the Pingel spacer ,no cutting,no end cap needed and it extends the shifter peg to the left.

I'm not shaft is splined at both ends, double the splining on the heal toe end, if you cut one of these splines off and fit the shaft back to front the cut end is next to the motor
