I love the new limited but my prescription glasses vibrate to the point that I have been getting headaches for rides of any length. The buffeting is significantly better with the new faring but still not acceptable for me. The windshield is 10" on the stock 14 limited. Today, I bought a 15" windshield from my local Harley dealer and put it on in about 5 minutes.....the difference is amazing. No vibration and even less buffeting. It is the most significant change I have made so far......It likely is not an issue if you don't wear prescription glasses, if you do, however, this is the way to go. It will change how much you enjoy riding and the smile factor is huge. $136.00 at Harley. Some will say that this windshield it doesn't have quite the "Cool" factor of the stock windshield but I am vibration free and love it.
I'm thinkin you did not have to go that tall unless you are like 6 foot 8. I changed my shield out for another 10" shield but went to a Long Ride Shield recurve top one, I could light a cigar behing that thing at 65mph I think. I can look over it but it acts like it's much taller. YOur super tall shield will probably be a PITA in the rain, but maybe you don't ride in the rain.
I did the same as you a couple of weeks ago, I ate a bunch of "Love Bugs" on a ride and decided then that I wanted to go to the taller windshield. I've had the 15" on my 3 previous Ultra's and I am just fine "Looking Through" and not "Looking Over" a windshield.
I have noticed on my '14 Limited that with the 15" windshield installed, the open or closing of the fairing vent doesn't seem to make much difference. I may reinstall the Stock windshield on occasion as the buffeting really didn't seem to be of much concern to me with the fairing vent open but I do like the extra protection of the tall one and I Don't like the taste of Love Bugs.
I am hoping that the vent open will help out while riding in the rain though, maybe it will help keep the water from collecting on the inside of the windshield. - I haven't had the misfortune of trying it out in the rain yet but I live & ride in Florida and get quite a bit of wet weather riding here.
Used to have the same problem. Took my eyeglass prescription to wal-mart got a nice pair of prescription sunglass, bought one of those around your neck straps, snug it up around the back of my head, can now ride without any windshield.
