I had never heard of them until a friend mentioned he had a spare set of slips hanging in his garage. Threw them on my '14 RK today and gotta say im in love!!! LOVE the sound, the tone, the deepness, throatiness ... and holy sh^t they open up when i want them to!!!
1 complaint ... they dont sit well on the stock headpipe. My wife pointed it out, where the slipon and head pipe meet, theres an overlap. To fix it id need to get an aftermarket head pipe, or put back stock exhaust. She says it makes it look like i tried putting something in that didnt fit. Ill post pics if anyone wants.
Anyhow, very happy with the sound and the performance difference is noticeable just on my 1 ride home.
see how the slipons dont really match the header pipe? The V&H setup i had on last bike was perfectly flush ... but i did have a V&H header as well, so im sure thats the difference.
Wife is nudging me to put stock back on because of that mismatch I described above. Crap, does it look that bad??
Also I REALLY like the low throaty rumble, but don't care for that raspiness when twisting it hard. If I were to do AC and/or header, would it be more throaty even when twisting?
Also would it be terribly louder? The current volume is doable for me, wouldn't want it much louder.
You are obsessing over a fitment issue that you are creating in your mind. There is nothing at all wrong with the fitment between the mufflers and the header heat shield in the FM photo. And remember that as headers and shields heat-up, many times any small gaps disappear if that is your concern.
I just ordered a new set of Rush Big Louies for my new 2013 ultra limited. Anxious to see how they sound with the stock head pipe? Ordered them with the 2.5 inch baffles.
Swing by your local dealer and take a good look at how the heat shields actually fit up... you may find they never were as seamless as you thought. That said, it can be a little tricky getting them to set properly once you've had them off. I had to fiddle with mine a couple of times to get the gaps right.
As far as how loud they would be with the stage 1 completed, I can only say that mine are barely noticeable cruising at 2500rpm in 5th gear without a helmet. With a full face on I can hear the purr without drone.
I have the 4" slashdown jackpots on my 2010 rk and couldn't be happier. I didn't notice any issue with fitment... Look great and sound great! No one else by me has a set either! Congrats w ur new bike!
