I have a stupid question. I am looking to upgrade from a superglide next year to a roadglide. I am curious if there is a big difference between the 96in and the 103in. I am looking at a couple different bikes and the miles are nearly the same but the 103 is 2000 more money. So is it worth it? Also does anyone know what year they came out with the 103 for the roadglide? Thanks...
There is not much difference between the 103 and the 96 by seat of the pants. A few ponies and torque. Not much.
You can make a 96 a 103 for around 600 bucks for the kit and 300 or so for an oil cooler if you think that is important. The 103 came with one I think.
BTW... man you are close to Sturgis! Must be nice.

Go with the bigger engine. But no matter which engine you get you're gonna love the RG.
2011 gave the option of 96" or 103" for another $1800. Then in 2012 it was standard. Here is the Dyno page from many baggers. I started on 200 where some 103" started to come in more. You can skip around and find many dyno's and see what mods they used to get the numbers they wanted.
I have a 12 RGC and it is a little more punch than my 10 Ultra. However, both are set up the same and the Ultra gets 50 mpg and the RGC gets 52 mpg. Last year for the 2K round trip to Sturgis at 70 to 75 mph was 52 mpg. The previous year the Ultra on the same route was 50.
I would recommend going bigger only because it also is a year newer. Or see how much less you can get for the older model. Again both are very good. Less money is always good also.
They all went 103 in 2011.
I had a 2011 FLTRU that was stock 103, with oil cooler.
My guess is there is a year difference in the bikes, and therefore the price difference.
That would be a BIG negative. When I bought my limited in 2011 they was selling touring bikes with 96's in em. 12 is when they ALL went with the 103, thats what pissed me off, I paid for the "power pack" and in 12 the 103 came standard. I am 99% positive I am correct, if I am not correct, I stand corrected, LMAO.
