been looking into getting some more power out of my 99roadking. I have spent the last week on the internet looking into the 95 kits. I ordered the Andrews TW26 cams a few days ago, and then last night I found the S&S 97 kit. I didn't even know a 97 kit was an option. Now i'm wondering if the TW26 cams will work ok with the 97 kit. Andrews site says that this cam is for 88-95 ci motors, but it also says that the TW21 is for stock motors and I have read of several people using it with a 95 kit and getting good results. Should I just stick with the 95 kit like I was planning originaly? (probably the zippers kit)
Also: I have s&s carb, VH true duels, ride solo (but take trips) No headwork at this time as i'm hoping that this will be my next step as money allows..
this 97 kit has really caught my eye though. anyone know of pro's or con's with it?
I doubt the additional 2 cubic inch displacement would make any difference. As you said, the 26 is recommended with a big bore kit while the 21 is for stock displacement.
Ya can also get your cylinders bored to 95" or 97" and use cp/wisco/SE pistons of your choice. 26 is a much better choice in a 95/97 than 21s. I would recommend going ahead with the headwork now (or saving up) and getting a complete matching build (cams/pistons/headwork). Tune it once.
I am happy with my 97" S&S setup. +1 on the heads. One reason I went with S&S was the 9.7:1 comp ratio. I think the 95" was either low 9s or over 10:1 and my cams like a higher ratio but I didn't really want to go with CRs.

the heads on the early twin cams are a real bottleneck.
as above, do at the same time and you save on the labor and gasket costs.
Mike
Labor part is not problem as I'm doing the work myself. I can do the mechanical work, I just don't understand how how all the lift, duration, compression stuff all works together. As for the headwork.. Well my budget only Allowes so much at one time. I would like to just have my cylinders bored a d buy pistons seperate but like I said I don't understand how this Ll works together so even though it costs me more with a kit I get stuff that works together

Any of the cam manufactures can/will help ya put a combo together. Give Andrews and/or Woods a call.
You can't go wrong with SE 95" pistons and having your cylinders bored. A cosmetic .040 head gasket shoul begins with the 26's.save the extra cash for a good tune
