Don't know how to put it to words but here goes. Perhaps I am just getting too old.
As my wife and I bought back into riding for pleasure we stepped literally whole hog to a Road King, we had not had a bike in the house since 1987 and it was 2009, we began to consider what we could do with it.
Being a mostly gypsy at heart I convinced her we needed to tour, go distance and places we had never considered so we made no specific plans just considered a direction and sights to see then left for our doubled up vacations.
This is where it comes in, I would sit with a notebook every night after we stopped for the day and write down the specifics of what seen, weather, most anything and everything, would more or less choreograph to the photos we had taken on the ride. Later back at the house I would transfer those notes into a sort of computerized diary/journal. Now comes a moment, the wife reads our trip journals and looks to me in question, did we really do that. Scary that she is losing so much memory as time wears thin, she can sometimes recall the rides in pieces but the little journals I have kept seem to aid in her reliving a moment that made us who we are and she was losing.
It is hard to keep rides separated after quite a few, now and then even I look back for that freshened look as to what we have done. A notepad, notebook with a pen or two keeps the memory a little more vivid, may be worth a little room in the bag for your next rides as well.

You ought to talk to my wife about me. My lack of memory can put here over the edge. Thyroid disease or atoravastatins can do that. I have both of them going on.

Reason: ......
I think that is a wonderful idea to keep a journal like that.. For me I would spend most of my time searching for the pen and notebook as I am pretty good at hiding things from myself..
I took what to me was the trip of a lifetime back in 2004, and I am so glad I journaled it. I would never be able to remember the details today. Restaurants, hikes, weather, distances, sights.
A notebook is a great idea, or an iPad etc...but as for your wife, does she smile when on the trip? Does she enjoy the trip? Do you? Then I would keep riding if the answers are yes...live for the moment, tomorrow is promised to no one...love her and the times you're together...
Ride safe, both of you.
Thanks for all the encouragement, we intend to go as long as we can physically handle it then a tad more. For me the journals are just getting more details so we do have a memory as the mind weakens. Was just feeling my age and thought I'd share a little tidbit that helps us through.

As her memory gets worse...she will remember those rides in much more detail then you do. She may not remember what you just said...but the long term memory is likely to stay with her.
