While riding home alone at night last week (1600 mile trip) I looked down to tach and speedo and noticed both at zero with just about every warning light lit up in the guage faces. The odometer wouldn't increment as I rode along but cruise control worked fine. I was wondering if charging system was working but it seemed to be fine. I rode for about 20 mile till I was sure I was within 100 miles of home which is what AAA(RV coverage) will transport me for free if broke down. I pulled into a gas station and shut it off - waited about 10 seconds - started it back up and all was good!!! What happened? Making me rethink my upcoming 5000 mile trip to Az - don't like side of the road action at all! Got 25000 miles on my 2012 Road Glide Custom and dead reliable so far. Any ideas? Happen to you??
It mounts into the top of the transmission, if I recall correctly. Should be able to see it easily as you look at the transmission from the right (brake) side of the bike.
if you have a piggyback tuner (or not) disconnect main fuse/breaker
disconnect ecm connections, run a tooth brush or if you have PLASTIC SAFE spray contact cleaner ( rag to catch overspray) on the contacts- and re-connect.
the computer could have got confused- like they do, the off/on sequence is usually what we do to reset a computer- this may have been a one-time.
charging system can easily be checked with a meter if you have reason to suspect that
other free checks are to pull and load test battery- check and clean battery cable connections at BOTH ends
