When did Madstad start making a shield for the Batwings? It's not shown on their website.
Apparently a while ago. I spoke with the owner, and he really isn't happy with the results of the shield on the Batwing. And he's right. I've ridden a Roadie with a Madstad, and it's amazing. It's not like that on a Batwing. It's better, but not amazing.
These were recommended to me. I wear them on any run longer than 10 minutes. I can hear music, traffic, voices with no issue.
You can spend literally hundreds on custom molded. These were a fraction of the cost and recommended to me by the Doctor I saw.
I agree; my Alpines are very comfortable, block out the wind noise, and were inexpensive. One must wear ear protection and full face or modular helmets DO NOT increase wind noise as has been stated.
I wear custom made ear plugs that I had made at motorcycle show 3 years ago. Cut the wind noise completely but I can still hear traffic and people talking. I can actually hear my radio better while wearing the ear plugs.
I haven't gotten the Alpine Motosafe plugs yet but today I tried my custom plugs and Howard Leight disposable plugs. I felt they both gave equal noise protection even though I thought the custom ones would be quieter. I found it interesting that when just walking around the custom plugs seemed to block much more sound but once I was riding I felt that the disposable plugs were every bit as quiet. At times I felt that there was even more wind noise with the custom plugs. The disposable ones were actually more comfortable (probably due to their softness). I'm glad I only spent 69 bucks for the custom ones rather than a couple of hundred because the disposable ones did a great job. Looking forward to trying the Motosafe plugs. I can say that after wearing ear plugs today I'll never again ride without them, at least not until my Alzheimer's sets in and I forget them.
I wear gun shooter ear plugs. The rubber ones on a string. And I don't ride without them. My wife won't wear them and I have to repeat myself when we stop because of the wind noise. She has to repeat herself because of my plugs.
I'm also wondering what the difference in wind noise is between the road king shield and a fairing, especially the new vented fairings. Anyone able to compare?
