Default Thinking of adding more power

I have a 12' FLHTK with 20k miles. Warranty runs out 9/14. Currently have a stage 1 with V&H power duals, twin slash rounds, SE AC, SE ST Pro w/ custom dyne tune. I have the itch for better touring performance solo and 2-up. I am not sure if I should just do a new cam or perhaps go with something like the Fuel Moto 107 Big Bore kit. I am at the beginning of my thought process and will be asking my trusted Indy for his input as well. I thought it would be wise to get some thoughts from those who have gone before me on this forum.

I'd suggest doing the research during the warranty period, then doing the work after.

IF you have an indy you are already working with, talk to him about what results you expect and what your budget is.

The sign at the old Hot Rod Shop:

How Fast

How Long

How Much

you get to pick 2

I asked a similar question and then spoke with one dealer and two Indys. I'm liking the Fuel Moto 107 setup. They seem to make over 100 ponies, and 115 ft lbs of torque for just over the two grand out the door price, if you use them directly, or an Indy. Doesn't sound like a bad deal for good power.

I just had some work done on my 12 Ultra Limited with the same thing in mind. Wanted better touring set up that was fun, I went with:
Super Sucker (I wanted to keep the stock profile air cleaner cover),
Power Commander V (My Indy likes working with it so no preference over the SERT or any others),
Gutted Cat from my Stock Header Pipe,
T-Man Performance 577 Cam (read what I could find on it, Glad I went with it)
V&H Hi Output Slipons (left that to the Indy as I didn't have a preference on Mufflers)

Attached Dyno, Got 99.5 HP and 110 Tq. I really like the ride so far, weather hasn't permitted a 2 up run with the wife to try it out yet. I'd imagine with your current set up if you added that T-Man cam and re-tuned you'd have a really good ride.

Son in law has 2012 FLHTK and we put TW 555 cams and power duals and the V&H slash downs on and SE AC. It ran good above 2800 two up. Not so well below. Put 30 tooth front pulley and 139 tooth belt and it is now much stronger from idle to 6000 rpms. It will cruise 60 in sixth gear two up and accelerate well. It will stretch the front shocks out at 65 in 6th. We used the PV on it and no dyno tune. With the SEPST you can't adjust the speedo, so the pulley change would not work without speedo adjustment. Speedometer will be reading 5 mph fast. You can up the compression to around 10.5 with the SE Kompressor heads and it will pick it up about like the pulley change. Son in laws dads 2010 triglide has the Kompressor heads and tman 555c cams V&H dresser duals and 3 1/2" Pythons and it does real well. The Kompressor heads made big difference on his. I am sure there are countless number of combinations that will do the same thing. I know these work.

There tons of good combos and builders out there but you really need to decide what kind of power ya want to make, how much of it and what ya are willing to spend for it. Throwing a good cam at what ya got can get close to 110/100, pistons and headwork can bump that 10+ on both ends. After that it really gets expensive splitting the case, boring them and doing crank work... Of course there are 120/124/130+ motors out there to bolt in...

Too open a question! Call in the Tech Engine section and do some reading. Plenty of options from 107" to 131"! We also have several tuning shops who are HDF sponsors and post advice over there.

I have the same setup, but had a dyno done a year later and gained another 8 HP. Made a big difference and recommend the dyno. Cheap way to gain power, even without engine mods. Downfall is, that if you make any changes, even changing pipes will require another dyno

Default Completed 2012 103'" Stage II

I am a rider who tilts the scales at around 340 lbs. My weight is like riding two up all the time. My stock 103 was not cutting it for me. It was very lethargic on the low end. I bought a Harley to use the torque not the H.P.
I did my research into affordable mods and decided the following course of action. It should be noted that I did do the work myself and installed the following:
SE 255 cams removed from a 13" CVO when new. (Ebay $260)
SE Heavy Breather Intake. (Craigslist new condition $225)
B-168 Torrington Bearings. (Ebay $18)
2009 Head Pipe with 18mm sensor bungs (CAT removed). (Ebay $135)
ThunderMax Tuner (Ebay $718) (at the advice of a Harley Shop Owner who makes his living building/dyno testing engines.)
I installed the TMax #288 tuneup.
I already had Rush 2" slip on exhaust mufflers.
The result was unbelievable as for performance. This bike really came to life and runs/pulls a large percentile better than in stock form. I have not had it on the dyno and do not intend too. Numbers don't mean much to me..I am not building a race engine. I wanted to do as much of the work as possible myself without having to pay for outside labor.
Please consider this an an option. You did not offer what degree of mechanical ability you possess but with the help of the service manual..a little mechanical ability...lot of the readers of this forum could pull this off.
