I bought a Flo reusable filter cost around $100 bucks but you can see what if anything is in your oil + what I do is about 2500-3000 mile range is pull the filter and clean it put it back on. After 5 or 6 changes it's paid for itself. http://pcracingusa.3dcartstores.com/...CS4B_p_34.html
At 119.95 compared to K&N 171C it would take 8 oil changes (40,000 miles) to pay for itself. 15 oil changes (75,000 miles) when compare to a Wix filter. Nothing wrong if that's the filter you wanna use its just not practical to me.
To all you wix filter users just a FYI. HAve been using the Napa branded (WIX) filters for years and recently started having issues with fit and gasket leaks. After some back and forth with WIX reps they finally admitted that just about 100% of thier filter componets are now being supplied from foriegn countries and only final assy is taking placed here in the states. This may or may not be true for motorcycle filters but after my last wix filter started leaking at the gasket I threw it away and went back to the HD filter. A few bucks saved was not that big a deal to deal with versus a filter that may fail out on the road. Just my 2 cents
Pity if Wix is going to ****. Been a fan of them for many years. I like the idea of the reusable filter, esp if you are going to take the time to see whats floating around in your oil.
check the plate depth on the filter. Face of gasket to the highest point on the plate. The filter is most likely tightening on the plate (bottoming out) and not on the gasket. Even though the threads and diameter are correct or close....the depth of the plate inside the filter will determine it the filter tightens on the gasket or the plate is tightening on the housing nipple.
Had this happen on Fram filters some 15 years ago. H-D put a nut (anti rotation) on their filter housing nipples. H-D concaved their filter plates to allow for this but the aftermarket filters did not. So I bottomed on the filter plate and not the gasket. Took Fram a bit to correct their part# and product.
using the PC racing filter myself...like it....
at 13.00/ filter, and changing at 3000 miles, i go thru about 4 per year.. will be paid for next year...
About the k&n 171c. I bought a dozen. I also read about and checked all mine. They are now made in Tiawan. Just a heads up. The nut is the cats as$ though.

Don't know where they are made and don't care really. It's a good filter just as the Wix is and yes, the nut is the shiznit.
