Here is something I learned the other day. Harley and Indy shops are replacing the stock headers with V&H and S&S headers all the time. They have no use for the removed stock headers, they are just scrap. $25 may buy a stock header for you to do the work on.

Diggs, there is NO legal side to removing the cat, just as there is NO legal side to wearing a novelty helmet (or any other helmet that is not approved by the DOT) in a state which requires helmets, but both happen on a very regular basis. Why?

As was mentioned, dealerships and indy's are swapping out stock headers and mufflers on a regular basis, and installing aftermarket duals and cross-over headers, none of which have catalytic converters installed. They don't seem to be bothered by it. Why?

LEO's know about it, too, and they don't seem to be bothered about it. Why?

I think most folks, myself included, know that what they're doing isn't "legal", but until the law starts being enforced, they're going to keep on doing it.

So, my long answer to your question boils down to this: I'm not bothered by it.

Cat schmat. I have my old pipe with cat. What do I do with my heads, cams and high comp pistons? If they start enforcing the laws, I got some splainin' to do :-)

i've drilled out a few of them. works good and it's fast to do. 1 inch x 16 inch paddle bit ,$10 at the hardware store.
+1... only I paid 4.95 + tax for the drill . home depot - irvine.
did pre drill a bunch of smaller holes before I used the spade with an old long drill I had laying around.
take Pipe off the bike though - my 2 cents. I got cheap head pipe on this forum as I want to build back to stock if needed for warranty.
get a "dentist" mirror to look into pipe if you got it all.
took me 1.2-2 hours and did brake off the paddle on the bit .

all three methods obviously work (easiest is just buying it on flea bay).
