Here is a pic of the stock bars and my new 12" Paul Yaffe Monkey Bars

This is where you wish you would have never attempted to do this yourself! I found the easiest method to pull the wires through was using weedwacker string and lots of Windex. Remember to push more than pull!! I also used Namz 8" plug-n-play switch extensions Part# NHCX-J08. You can also see that the stock wiring is just long enough to reach through the bars.

Here is where you need to figure out where you want your bars positioned at. You will need to secure your bars and temporarily fasten the fairing back in place. I left the bars just loose enough to be able the move them. I ended up pushing mine as far forward without contacting the fairing itself.

The rest of the pics are after the completed install!

I was able to go for a spin this morning and I must say that these are what my bike was missing! Although I have not went for a long ride yet, I feel as if they make me sit straight up and not slouched over. I was hesitant about going with the 12" bars, but I am completely satisfied that I did. I am only 5'6" with a 29" inseam and these feel perfect for me! By the way the only thing needed for the install was the bars themselves and the Namz wiring extensions. The stock clutch and brake hoses are long enough for a set of 12" Monkey Bars!
That is great to know, most installers want to push replacement of cables. I just got the Buky 12" Malo...will get the Namz 8 " extensions as you suggest. Great post and a sweet ride...

Great thread, thanks for posting. I never considered ape hangers on my SG, but after seeing yours, I just may do it. Can anyone say if the clutch cable will be long enough on pre-2014 Street Glides?

Also, has anyone tried the vacuum cleaner and string trick to get the wiring started through the bars?

Awesome look and great post. I was on the fence about apes but with the back aches I'm getting with the stock bars I'm doing the 12" as well now.

Hey all,

I am about to order the 12" black Yaffe bars for my 2014 SGS. I have changed plenty of bars but all were pre TBW and Can bus and none were bat wings. So from what I am reading. The NAMZ switch extensions are all I need. The Throttle wire is long enough.

Also, do I have to remove the entire faring or just loosen some bolts and rotate it forward enough to get to the bar clamp?

Did you have to remove the hydraulic clutch and brake lines from the controls to reroute them? I have never had a bike with ABS so don't want a bleeding nightmare. Thanks in advance!

I just ordered a set of 13 prime apes from la choppers. Do you think the stock clutch and brake line will be long enough?

Does the 12" monkey bars fit the hydralic clutch also on the 2014 SG

Yes, just snip the zip ties to give the clutch and brake a little extra room.

You have the right idea. Pull outer fairing and rotate inner fairing forward. On the '14s you DO NOT have to remove the ignition switch. Pop the zip ties that hold the clutch and brake lines and reposition them, they'll work fine. 8" NAMZ extensions worked for me as well. Weed eater string, lube (WD-40 in my case) and patience are your friends.
