I know the bikes are identical from the fairing back. To see a difference between the SG & RG, wouldn't I need to be on a highway doing 65+ on a windy day? I'm not trying to be a smart *** - isn't that when you'd really noticed the difference between the frame-mounted & fork-mounted fairing?

I live in PA and the the riding season is going to be more limited so I'm not in any big hurry. I've read that the new RG is going to be out January or February.

Should go for the SGS now or wait to see what the redesigned RG is like?
Living in PA, why would you buy a bike now? I'm in NJ and riding season will be over any second now as soon as they first snow and road salt.

Two reasons:
  1. I ride more in when it's warmer but I do like to get out on the bike year round as long as the weather is moderately decent.
  2. Now is a great time to buy a motorcycle (or a boat)

I can see where a logical person would think this.

But I can tell you, however, having owned both, I didn't find that to be true at all.

It's personal preference. Buy what you want and ride the **** out of it...

Coming into winter is the best time to buy. It's always been said. If you wait for the RG, get mentally prepared to wait through another riding season. There's nothing saying they will be out before the 15 model year. Great bikes, but just know it's very possible you will be waiting past the 14 riding season as well to see one. Good luck with whatever you decide.

The SG is a known and available now. The new RG is unknown at present. It will probably have the water-cooled heads and I suspect they will be built into the new fairing, so there is no certainty just what the finished product will look like, nor when it will be launched. On the other hand the best time to buy a bike is when the snow is thick and the only way to get to a dealer is by 4x4! For an RG that is a year away......

what I found is that when you buy a vehicle of any kind take a test drive. several times with cash in had I changed my mind after a test drive. I have owned both frame mounted(metric) and now a sgs. I prefer the sgs but that me.
Drive a 2013 road glide and you will see if you even like the frame mount fairing.

Your riding season is over.
If the RG comes out and is a hit, don't plan on any discounts.
If ya don't like it, by then the SGS will be cheaper.
