Default Question about Heated Clothing

Stupid question about heated clothing which I am planning to buy. Are there any problems that I may encounter when the clothing becomes wet?

Go to the Gerbing website and ask them directly. I've got all Gerbing electrics, but don't know the answer to your question. Only ride on sunny days when it's cold.

My Gerbing gloves have been through the rain many times. No ill effects that I can say, even when soaked through. I'd be willing to bet they designed the gear with not shocking people in any scenario as a priority.

I would guess that if you are choosing to ride in rain or get caught in it, you have rain gear as your first layer...if so, the heated clothing should be pretty much protected. My heated stuff is the first layer over my street clothes as they are more effective thataway. They are NEVER my top layer.

I've never had an issue with mine in the rain.

If you mean "will I get electrocuted?" - the gear is only 13.8VDC nominal so no. Wouldn't be any different than grabbing the +/- terminals of your battery directly (we've all done that at least once, right?).

If you mean "will the gear fail?" - not in my experience, and I ride ~30k a year so my gear has been through rain many, many times. To be clear, my jacket liner is under a waterproof jacket (Olympia AST II) and behind a fairing, so it only gets what might get past the zippers, but the gloves and boot insoles have been soaked, with no issues. FWIW, I keep the controller in Gerbing's leather pouched clipped to an outer jacket pocket and I've never had one of those fail, either.

If you mean "will the insulation get soaked and compacted and cause the wires to get too close to my skin and burn me?" (ok, I'm really reaching on this one <grin>) - again, not in my experience. If it gets too hot, turn the controller down.

I'm a fan....
