Ok, first ride today with the new setup. Much quieter, still with a bit of sound thanks to the cat-less system. Doesn't sound as good though, thats for sure, now I know what the difference is between the true duals and stock headers. But I'm digging the sound level anyway. Seems to be running ok. I haven't changed any settings on the PCIII. I guess thats my next thing to learn about. ;-)
I thought the 07 stock slip ons were the quieter because they had cats in the slip ons ? The newer stock slip ons are a littler louder because the new year model bikes have a cat on the headpipe .
New stock take-off from ebay. I got mine brand new off a 96 TC Custom for $40 total including postage The cross over, baffle system and chrome make after market junk unless you just want to make a lot of noise, loose you engine braking and kill the bottom end torque. And then I took the box and sold the Python long shot (no crossover) and quite baffles (nothing but plugs) on Ebay for $200.

Your right the 07 stock slip ons do have the cat in them. I got a 07 set of head pipes and the slip ons from a 2010. So I have no cats.
I just bought a used Sportster XL883 C and it had the V&H slip ons. I think they are to loud also. I still have the stock pieces and will put them back on. I wonder what differance I'll see?
After 30 minutes of riding, my ears are starting to ring. Even with ear protection.
Like the Fullsac recommendations. I'm already thinking of getting new headers though. The set I got doesn't have the heat shields. It's going to cost me about $150 for a set, and I need a couple of brackets that are missing. another $50 or so. I can get a set of cobra true duals for about $350 that have the mounting brackets and heat shields. What do you guys think? are the cobras any good?
