Have heard good things about Fullsack headpipes for earlier bikes (like the one on my '09) add some supertrapp/SE Fatsots/nightsticks for less noise or '10 up takeoffs.
If I were to ever go back to a 2:1, I'd probably go straight to the Supermeg. I'm sold on the disc system.

Try some Big City QQ Thunder Monster Baffles with your present system. Baffles go in the head pipes. I have them with the Rinehart Slipons and it quieted down the growl. Just another option to explore.

I went through the same thing. The only real solution was to sell the Rineharts. I would do that and then get a set of MGS headers. They are similar but, you can use anyone's mufflers you would like but get to keep the true dual look and sound. I have the MGS set up with Kerker mufflers and my bike is deeper than stock but not a bunch louder. It sounds great and is a lot easier on my already ringing ears...

If you want less noise and "real" HP gain then I can think of only one pipe that offers significant HP gain and still maintain quiet.

Check out the Bub 7.
Dennis has been making pipes for 35 years and he's one of the only men on the planet to ride a motorcycle over 350 MPH.
Note: I don't run his pipes now but I have in the past.

Holy smoke! Hold the phone! Before slapping down $600 - $800 why not try some quiet baffles from Smart Partz. I'm getting a set of V&H Propipe Chrome. Lot of reports say they're too loud. If that's the case I'm installing a quiet baffle. $50 and done.

I may be alone here but nothing is cheap about owning a HD... Real performance and upgrades cost real money...

The best advice for choosing slip-ons is to go to your local Harley shop or anywhere else Harley's gather. Take a look at all the slip-ons and listen to the ones that you like. I am sure a rider would be glad to crank it up for you to take a listen. Do not rely on sound clips ... they sound nothing like the actual slip-ons. I did a sound clip of my two Bassani's and neither sound like they do standing next to them.

The previous owner of my SG had chosen Bassani Megaphones and they sounded great with a slight deccel rasp that I could live with. What I couldn't live with was the retro style and the length. I knew I wanted 4" slash cuts and, after listening to all kinds (in person), I couldn't find anything I liked better than the Bassani's. So, Bassani custom-cut a set of their slash cuts (stock are waaay long for me). To my surprise, these did not have the deccel rasp, but, they did have the same sound. They were also able to custom cut the same 2-1/4" baffle as the previous Megaphones so my rwhp/rwt from my recent 107" build was not affected.

Default Thanks

Thanks for all the awesome recommendations. I'm slowly but surely looking into all the pipes and mufflers mentioned in this thread. This thread will surely be of help to a lot of people in the same situation. Even if they don't want to admit it. ;-) At the moment the Patriot Defender looks pretty interesting. If I had the cake I would be ordering the S&S Power Tune Duals and a set of Fatshots.....

Don't overlook the used market.

I have 2 sets of Fatshots that I bought used...so about 1/2 price.

the supertrapp style pipes are a true "Hi Flow" so performance gains from stock will be real.

watch the classifieds at the forums and your local craigslist.
