Been reading for awhile, thanks for all the good information and opinions.
I purchase an 07 SG slightly used (200 miles) the previous owner did a bunch of mods before he traded it for an UC.
One mod was the SERT, I found this out by having the service department print a list of everything previous owner had done.
I never received the KEY for the SERT, I have asked the dealer to try and contact the previous owner to see if he still has it and would be willing to give it up. Since it is only good for my VIN, shouldnt I be able to get a replacement KEY from the dealer? Free, at a fair price, or full price?

I would think the individual that owned the bike prior to you buying it would be the one to give up the SERT. Just my .02 It would be nice if the dealer would hook you up though.
The previous owner should give you the "key". There was a previous post where the dealer tracked down the previous owner for the new buyer, and he simply forgot and sent the new owner the "key"....It's not good for anything else but that bike.
if not, you'll have to buy a new SERT at full price.
it ain't really a key, but rather an interface device that also stores the VIN of the bike. i wouldn't expect the dealer to give you one.ain't really a replacement item. you'd have to get an entire new SERT, whichconsists of the interface and a CD discbest is to get a hold of the old owner and see if he still has it. won't do anyone any good who doesn't have the bike it was married to.
You cant get a replacement. If the original owner doesnt give it up, bet he would, its no good to him. Only option, buy another if you need to tune more, you can't even add a pcIII because it now has a altered base map. You could replace with a thundermax because it replaces the ecm or you could get the dealer to replace the sert map with a stock one.
