Default FBI Flush Mount Axle

Anyone install one of these on their bike?

When I ordered my new wheels, I decided to switch to a flush mount axle as well. I finally got some time and am installing the stuff. Well, in the kit, they include a bolt, nut, and washer to pull the cap into the fork leg. It doesn't matter what I do, I cannot get rid of a gap between the cap and the leg and Now, after trying to pull it in and beating on it, the cap is stuck in the fork.

Anyone have any ideas?

Remove wheel and start the cap in the fork leg and put the nut up on the bolt and then the washer from inside the fork leg. Screw the bolt in to the axle cap finger tight and hold the bolt whith one wrench and turn the nut with another wrench pulling the cap up in the fork. Once the cap touches the fork leg stop. If you pull it in to far it will mess up the cap so be real careful in this process. Once it is flush and the gap is gone loosen the nut and remove the bolt and install wheel and torque to spec.

That's what I'm saying...I did that. Cranked on it with a wrench and it just won't budge. Almost like it's too big.

Edit...this picture was taken when I mocked up the wheel so it isn't installed.

When all else fails...grab a hammer.

I had to put the wrench on and hit it over and over to get it to pull in. Messed up the nut and the cap will probably never come out, but I guess it is what it is. What a pain in the ***.

Use a dremel to go around the inside of the hole in the fork leg that the cap goes in to. This will make a little room for the cap to fit in properly. There is probably a little extra thickness from the powder coat.

Haha, this was probably the most careful hammering I've ever done. Only damage done was to the nut and a few marks on my 3/4 wrench.

Actually thats what I figured too...but where wasn't any powder in there. They did a great job of keeping it clean. It just seemed like the cap was slightly too big. You would think it would be a little easier since screwing the axle in would hold the cap in.

Havent heard many good things about FBI. Fitment issues mainly. For the price of their parts, they should go together with no problems. Sucks you give them your hard earned money and still have to break out tools to "make" them fit.

Talk to the vendor you bought it from.
