That said, I noticed in watching the Nav some, several new roads aren't there. I was going to research it, but my buddy already had - My brand new 2014 motorcycle comes with 2012 maps and if you would like to upgrade to the latest its 150 bucks from the website. Nice play Harley. So now if I want the Infotainment center to be top notch and work like advertised, I only need to upgrade the maps to the NOW time frame for 150 bucks, bike to bike CB for 400.00 and oh yea, the headset and connection adapter so the phone works.
And BTW - you'll never get the CB for $400. Its over $800 with installation. Parts alone were over $500. The kit for 359 is just the starting point! LOL! You still have to buy the switch and the antenna.

Most manufacturers charge for GPS updates. It's quick easy money. This is one reason I prefer my Garmin GPS. Updates are free. I can also move the unit between my two bikes and snowmobile.
Actually no, updates are not free. Unless you mean they are free after you pay for them. With Garmin, you either 1) buy a unit with Lifetime Maps (higher priced) 2) buy a lifetime map update for about $100 or 3) buy the updates individually.

Regardless, I agree its a better deal with Garmin either with their LM units or by buying the lifetime update option.

I just checked Garmin.com. Updates for my GPS are free. Always have been with no payment required. My GPS is 6 years old. Perhaps things have changed now.

Sync for Ford/Lincoln is free for two years, then $125.00 a year for all the updates. Garmin and TomTom haven't ALWAYS had free maps. It used to be $100 or more, in some cases MUCH more, to update the maps. Market competition drove the prices down. With any of the auto manufactures, you're stuck with that system...same thing as with Harley now.

And while Garmin is ok, TomTom is a MUCH better stand alone unit. Run them side by side sometime and see for yourself. More roads and better updates on the TomTom. And yes, we have both.

$199 for my Vette upgrade (comes in a DVD), only did it once in the 5 years I own the car and really didn't notice much of a difference.

I've never updated the map on my 8 year old Tom-Tom and it's taken me to many places around the country without any problems. Plus, I can plan a trip on my computer (with more than 10 waypoints) and upload quickly to my nav. Works pretty good.

I have no need to update the POS navigation system in my Subaru. I use the screen as a suction cup mount for my Garmin 550!

I've only used the cheaper 125 to $150 dollar Garmin Nuvi GPS units.
Seems there was always a charge for map updates for these units.

I see now that you can buy one with lifetime updates. I must admit... that's cool.

You have no clue do you? Naviextras supplies the maps & the 2014's all have the most current version already installed. Yes, they're dated Dec2012, but even if you've got money in hand & want to update, there's is nothing available that is more current.

You just look for opportunities to rag on H-D. There's plenty of **** to rag about, but this ain't one of them.

Peace.

Maybe Harley will do the right thing and give everyone one free upgrade when the newest map comes out. I know GM did it for some of the Vettes, I think they gave 2 free upgrades, don't know if they do it anymore.
