Default Electrical connection behind fairing?

Wanting to hard wire a Zumo 660 onto my bike. Don't have much room left under the seat. I hear there is a connection point under the fairing "behind the headlight" that only has power when the ignition is on that would be available to use on my 08 Ultra.

Can somebody give me an idea where it's at? Is it supposed to be on the wiring loom that plugs into the back of the headlight, or in the mess of wires behind the headlight itself and closer to the frame of the bike?

Help a young'un with bad eyes, please...'cause I ain't seeing it...

Thanks Mike. I'll take a look in the morning when I pull the fairing. Sounds like a perfect place to run to.

you can just pull out the headlight and leave the fairing in place.

if you do remove the fairing

1.) plan where you are going to put it

2.) thick socks over the spot lights, THICK towel on the fender

3.) remove windscreen

replace center screw

remove fairing screws

the center screw now holds it all together- easy for you to balance the fairing and remove the center screw with other hand

then you pull towards you and unplug headlight.

and put the fairing down on the nice soft spot that you planned on in step 1

mkguitar: thanks for the fairing removal writeup. I've had mine off at last a dozen times in the past five years (amp work, new speakers, new radio, new CB, new lights, install CB mount under the radio, etc) but I'm sure that will help somebody else.

sanman4ever: Yep, seen that. Didn't put 2 and 2 together, thanks for the photo. Not sure what kind of plug is on the end, but I imagine the best way to connect the Garmin is to cut and join the cables unless somebody know what part number I'd need for the plug to just put on the Garmin side.

just crimp a spade terminal on it.
I use that for power for my isimple iphone interface

re write up- I try to generalize for the next Guy.
I learn alot from other riders and reading their posts.

That wiring is for the Euro-spec "position light", which is a 5 w bulb inside the headlight housing.

Europeans sometimes use only a position light when in cities, the headlight low beam is focused quite close to the vehicle, and the high beam is "normal".
When a Euro headlight is used here ( such as the Hella "E-Code") riders often find that after they've aimed the low beam...tilting the whole thing up, the high beam lights up the tree tops.

Was that connection added as simply an extra power source for an add on if needed, or was it designed specifically for something?

Sanman, found the connection in your photo. I take it positive goes there, and negative goes to ground like on the frame. Mike, I see it's a spade connection, so I'll spade it up. Thanks for the help.

It is there for International models that use it for lights
