Zipper repaired ?
I know this is probably not the place to post this, but I broke off the FOB, the part you grab, to zip up my coat. It is my heavy leather HD winter riding coat that has a date code of 07/2005. I have searched everywhere to no avail.. any help? I need a web page/ phone num. or where I can get it repaired. I dont want just anyone working on it. thanks Dan
Dan,
I live near Woodstock HD in Woodstock, IL (815-344-9300). They periodcially have an outfit come in that does all kinds on leather repair work and sewing. They will be there today as part of an open house. Some one there may be able to put you in touch with them or maybe your local dealer knows of someone.

LOL. Been doing that since I pulled mine off the other day at work. Dosn't look very good but at least I can still wear my coat until I find a fix. Just have to tuck the clip inside the zipper flap so I don't get laughed at.

I used to work for a Taylor. Most places won't tell you this, because they want to sell you replacment of the whole zipper, but you can simply replace the slide, it can be a simple fix.
At the top of theslide side there is a stop piece, a piece that is not part of the zipper, but stops theslide from comming off. Seperate that and theslidepiece can come off. Get a matching slide and put it on. Put the stop piece back in. The trick is getting the right slider, call the manufacturer and see if you can get one or a uniform short.
Else go to any tailor, and they should be able to replace the slide only if there is nothing wrong with the zipper.
I also know there is a company that sells a ring setup (much like a key ring)with a tassel, thatyou can fit on, just for this purpose.

NichNoah, That is exactly what I,m looking for. The zipper is not worn, just the pull tab broken off. If you can remember where I can get one of those tassels/pull tabs, I would be very greatful. My zipper, where the tab fastens on, has a little pull bar that locks the slider from moving when if is released. As others have suggested, I have a large paperclip in it now. It looks very dorky, but it works for now. That is like riding the bike to get the rear tire changed or dino run. I leave the bags at home!!
dgriffith,
I will try and find that company I was talking about (you can try like a dennis kirk shop or something like that to), here is a website with some zipper info, all you need to fix is the right slide and a pair of needle nose.

In the meantime, to loose the paperclip, get a nice leather lace or boot tie, loop it through, tie it together and cut to length.
