Just save your money for awhile and enjoy the bike as is

When you get 410 bucks saved up order a set of VH True Duals off ebay from Eastern Performance

They are great

and you wont waste money on drill bits , bandaids, frustration

You will be happy you did

Not going to take sides or make any claims.

But I have a question for those that have drilled it out. How do you know you got all the material out unless you cut it open to see???

I cut a window in the pipe and removed all the material it was a bitch no way you can get it out from the end with a drill bit! Look on ebay for a pipe and cut a window in it and have it welded back up this way you will still have your old pipe.
if you have not tried it, you don't know. i've done it on many bikes and you CAN get it all out and clean too! i have two welders here at the house and chose to drill because it works well, i was doubtfull at first about the drill method, but once i did it and seen how well it works i seen no need to cut and weld, waste of time. i ran a dental mirror down in my pipe and it's clean,as are the others i have done. the cat. material is tough, but it comes out with little effort. believe want you want and do it anyway you want, but drilling is easier and leaves no scars on the outside of the exhaust. it's your bike do as you like, even if it's the hard way.

Several people have taken pictures of the insides of their pipes using mirrors. Seems like they got it pretty clean.

Still like buying one already done and welded up off the internet, then selling your old pipe. Almost as cheap as buying some drills, making all that mess, burning out your drills, and inhaling all that bad cat dust.

No matter. Lots of information on both systems, and people should feel free to go the way they want. Both systems end up with a cooler and better sounding exhaust. Not worth arguing about so much.

you can look in there with a mirror, one guy posted here a few years now who had a camera probe. Too many naysayers on here who do take sides without actually doing it. I did it with the drill method so can say YES it can be done, maybe not by everyone, but it can be done

Had to take it off anyway, spent less time by buying a takeoff decat header and back to riding same afternoon. Also still have the cat header sitting in the garage as a just in case.

do it anyway you like, but $10 on a drill bit beats the hell out of $125 on a used pipe that you don't know if it's really clean or not.

I guess allot of you folks missed the whole "strapped for cash" part or just like to spend peoples money for them. There's plenty of documentation on this forum about how much material could be left if you use a drill and it's highly unlikely that tiny bit of material would ever do anything other than blow out the end of the exhaust. Not everyone has a welder but most people can get they're hands on a high speed drill and a 10 dollar drill bit.

I haven't drilled one out yet. I have drilled many holes. The trick to any hard metal is to push hard and drill slow (just the way she likes it).
I just couldn't resist!

Sounds like some serious cat fighting about to break out.. LOL
Each person has to assess their cash and resources..
To reach his own!

Mine is cut and welded, but if I had another shot at one, break out the drill!!
