Default HD Urethane Riser Bushings Question

Trying to torque a new set of the HD poly riser bushings and can't seem to get them to torque to the factory 30-40 ft lbs without the bushings squishing all the way out from under the top washer. I have tried several times and am pulling them down evenly from side to side but can't stop them from squishing out the sides to the point it looks as if the top washer is going to cut through the bushing. What am I missing here? You guys run it like that or not torque them so tight? Thanks

Been a while since I installed them but I went to torque spec. Isn't there a metal sleeve that goes in the center of the bushing? Is it there?

The top "cupped" washer and inner sleeve is all one piece on these. The inner sleeve portion is shorter than the poly bushing on both halves so when torqued it gets a tremendous amount of squish which in turn pushes the top of the bushing right out of the cupped washer. Hope that makes sense.

Are you sure you have the right ones for your bike? They are model specific as the thickness of the top triple trees vary.

As said above, there SHOULD be a sleeve that goes down the center that keeps the squish thing from happening and allows factory torque to be applied. Are they the right ones for your bike?

Only 1 part number for all 88-on touring models. It is 56298-03. Pretty sure it is exact same as alloy art. Instructions say to discard the old spacers. You insert only the new bushings per instructions and parts diagram. I will see if I can find a copy of the instructions to link. My computer is not working or I'd post them.

Here is the link to the part at hd. You can see in pic the short inner sleeve. The washer/sleeve is all one piece.
