I've pulled mine off a few times no special tools or anything, its simple.
But you will need special tools for the actual cam change part to lock the chain and if you change the berrings (you should since you are in there) you will need a special puller adapter thing-ama-jig

My bike is an 05. MoCo has a cam change specific gasket set that has the breathers included. The throttle body will remain in place, and I'm awaiting delivery of the inner bearing remover/installer tool from Heartland.

I could be wrong, but if the Moco's cam change gasket kit is like the James Gasket kit sold by Fuel Moto ($50, btw), it includes gaskets for the old style breather assemblies.

I've never actually seen what is in the gasket kit from Moco though...

Again, is it necessary?
There are 2 rocker box wrenches;
upper rocker box wrench - $18 at jbtoolsales.com vs $35 from HD. Same tool

lower rocker box wrench - $18 at jbtoolsales.com vs $27 from HD. Same tool

you might want a cam lock tool (not really necessary as you can torque down the cam bolts with the rear brake pedal and a helper)

you'll need a bearing puller/seater to replace your stock inner bearings. Cheap insurance so do it while you have it opened up.

James Gasket Kit (JGI-17033-99) for your bike. Has all the gaskets and orings you'll need for cam swap, cam cover, rocker boxes, breathers, pushrod tubes, etc. You can get these pretty much anywhere. FM, Amazon, Fleabay, etc.

the first couple of times I did this I didn't use special tools but now that I do it regularly I have the necessary tools to make it easier.

This is a link to the kit, $90 at Surdyke. It has more stuff than I need, like bearings, but you can see the new breathers in the pic. http://houseofharley.com/en/products...FWUV7AodQlYA9A

So do I need dogbones in two sizes plus the ones UltraNutZ mentions above? I've never seen it done so don't know what to expect.

Motion pro torque wrench adapter. Read back through this thread. Part number given. Don't need dog bones if you get this tool.
