I just installed the Boom myself and am extremely pleased. I read a thread from HD Forum Member TzRider about filling the speaker cavity with polyfill to make it louder and give it more bass. I followed his exact steps and even spoke to him a couple times on the phone about it. I am extremely pleased with the outcome considering what I paid for the speakers. I was happy with stock but wanted a little more sound and bass for highway speeds. I truly believe if that's all your looking for then you will be happy with the Boom Audio Speakers and even more happy if you follow what TzRider did. Here is a link to his post (with pics) about adding polyfill. Good Luck with your decision!
This weekend, I installed a Rockford Fosgate PBR 300X2 amp with Polk MM651 speakers and I couldn't be happier with the result!! I expected it to be louder and sound better but had no expectations of the superb sound quality and volume that this set up produces!!! I highly recommend this setup. I was able to get this upgrade done for under $350 and that includes the speaker ring adapters and the amp wiring kit.
Im interested in the responses here. I have been thinking the same thing, I would like a little more sound out of my stereo but I really dont see me needing an amp. I just wish the stockers sounded good when they were up loud...........
I have Rockford Fosgate PBR 300X2 amp with 4 Hertz speakers installed. Two in the fairing and two in my lower fairing as well, and I can hear it really good on the hiway doing 80mph, and that's not turned up all the way.
I did need to put adapters on the upper fairing speakers because they are larger then stock.
instead of the J&M, just throw a couple of hundred dollars out the window.
Visit the audio forum and do some reading and post what you are looking for. Depending on what you are looking for, the are better and less expensive options than Boom.
I upgraded and have a pair of booms for sale. They are not the best out there but they are better than stock IMO.
Do some research and set a budget. You'll see the trends of what guys are using these days. A lot of it is preference and if your comfortable installing it etc.
I did the Boom fairing speaker and was really pleased with them.
I think they sound great and a little louder than stock.
I recent added the Boom Saddle Bag skeaker kit.
That made a huge difference.
I'm now surrounded by sound as I roll down the road.
