No idea how much fabrication you want to undertake. It is definitly worth it to take a look at what this gent is doing with his Shovelhead Glide (it is the same frame and overall setup as your 92)

This build is definitly one of the best upgrades of an older glide that I've ever seen.

If I still had my 89, I'd be doing most of what he has done !
