Default Electra Glide conversion HELP!

I have a 92 FLHTC electra glide classic. I am wanting to update the bike to a post 1996 style back half for some of the perks the newer modules have such as a quick release tour pack and passenger back rest. Also wanting a wider fender as well as updated bags. I'm sure it's possible to do just not sure what kind of problems I may run into other than the battery box and oil tank placement has anyone attempted this or have and advice on this project?

Thanks in advance

Cool

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. Call in the Evo section, where you will find that someone has done much of what you to want to do. This is not a bolt-on project, so you will need to do some cutting and modifying. If you don't have one get yourself a factory service manual, it is going to be your friend!

hmm, big job with relocating battery and/or oil tank.

removing the tourpak with bolts is pretty easy..start there

take the T/P off the rack, then remove the rack from the fender struts.

have a look at the result and the parts.

roll up any wiring and tuck under the seat

if you are the kind of rider who only does a swap a couple of times a year, this chang3over only takes 30 minutes

wide rear fender?...you'd still be stuck with the MT9016 tire.
you could swap to a chain drive and get a wider tire under there.
or go to a wider swing arm...

but this is getting expensive for no real reason.

the secret is YOU don't see any of this stuff when you are going down the road...and NOBODY will notice unless the bike is parked.

Other sizes will fit, with suitable changes, such as MU, even 150/80. I currently have a 160/70, with stock rear fender, but that is a long story.....

yes, sometimes a MU85 will fit, but that is case by case.

I wanted an MU on my '95 and the belt rubbed.

tire shop said sometimes yes, sometimes no

and for the long story, you are better equipped ( emotionally anyways) to undertake fairly major mods without concern for expense, downtime or frustrations.

England has a long tradition of overcoming "impossibilities" in a garden shed.

The wide fender isn't really the goal... Tire size is what I'm trying to change, I'm wanting to use i 150 series tire if possible. I was assuming the fender size was the issue with using a wider tire I wasn't considering the belt drive interfering. The rear of the bike wants to dive into the corners when running the suggested tire pressure on the skinny tire, but when I drop psi in the rear and put more rubber on the road it corners much smoother and improves the ride. Just don't want to roast the tire before it's time by running it too low.

Concerning the tour pack I don't care for the look all that much and would prefer to have just a low rise back rest for my wife (when she rides) and only have the tour pack while on long trips. Aftermarket parts for pre 96 touring models are next to impossible to find and quick connect parts are non existent, otherwise I wouldn't be considering the conversion.

I am with GR Brown, you need to troll the evo section. there is an amazing wealth of information there. of course, you should make sure you have a fairly thick wallet.

when i had my '89 ultra, i turned it into a street glide. i added 93 and up bags, 2000 up front brakes, great upgrade i will say, changed the seat and moved the battery under the seat. made the trunk quick releasable enough. there was no need to move the oil tank. here is the link where i show some pictures of that.

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/evo-c...ocation-3.html

as much as i wanted a wider rear tire, i never went that way. my '07 e-glide had the same tire. i was able to put a MU85 on that bike and it has a nice look, just not sure if it will fit the bike you have. Just so you know, and because the head pipes always crack, i put a complete street glide exhaust (headers, heat shields and mufflers bought of ebay for $98). it bolted right up without any issues to speak of.

Ok so I have looked through several very informative threads and have learned that the 4 point docking hardware for the 97-08 flhtc will bolt up to my bike without to much of a headache and eliminate the very ugly stock Tp rack. And if I'm not mistaken the 93 Tp and bags should work with my bike as well. Being as mine are kinda rough as it is plus I would like to change to the newer style anyway that's good to know. All that's left is a shorter windshield, taller bars, nicer seat, true dual exaughst, and some satin black to top it off and she will be good as new. Although I'm sure I'll find a ton more mods I want to do to the old girl before that long list is complete. With the amount of $$$ I'm looking at spending I may have to look for a good divorce attorney while I'm at it. My wife is going to strangle me lol

It's beautiful and doesn't deserve the bad press it gets! But each to his own. My tourpak is qd with four bolts and a qd electrical connector.

No they won't! Your battery is outside the frame and has to be moved, plus the battery tray cut (or replaced) and some brackets made up to fit the later bags. They are bigger in overall profile than your current bags and sit further away from the bike, as well as not having a battery cutout.

In addition to the link that Broke posted, take a look at this one for more info.
